DestiVu and Other Software for Gateway Destination Systems
Back in the late 1990's Gateway (Known as Gateway 2000 at the time) released their
Destination systems. Computers with a big screen television monitor and TV tuner cards,
DVD player and a nice state-of-the-art sound system. Today the systems are all but a shadow
on the map, and trying to get your old Destination system to work has turned from a pain in the neck
and into some sort of challenge/project. However, the biggest challenge seems to be getting the
software that made the Destination systems work. Gateway still offers most of the drivers and amazingly
still has system serial numbers on file for you to get your system information and most of the stuff
you'll need to work. But they're still missing some things.I've been repairing an old system for my friend and found that you have to do it yourself if you want it done. Gateway wants you to install the original OS in order for them to give you the support you need. I managed to get all the drivers that "weren't suppose to work on anything but Windows 95" to work on Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). The only problem I've had is that the video outputs on the old VideoRage II card to work (asside from the regular 15-pin output). So my challenge now is to find DestiVu version 1.0.0.0 that came with the system because I believe that may hold the secrets of the video outputs, but we'll see. I've included here a zip of the DestiVu 2.1 software that should work assuming you have the right video card. I'm offering it here as a service to everyone else because I think a lot of people are looking for this software and don't have any way of getting it. It comes off the Destination System CD 3.2, so if you need anything else from that cd, let me know. If you have an older system cd that contains the DestiVu 1.0 software, please send an e-mail to webmaster \at/ nanovox.com because I really need that for this system, and others also need it. I'd be glad to host that version as well if anyone has it. If you have any other information or software for Destination systems that you'd like to have up here, let me know. If anything is inaccurate on here, let me know and I'll fix it. Update 10/7/2004: Thanks to Rox for sending me the DestiVu 1.0.0.0 software. Unfortunately I already returned the system I was working on to my friend, but it was still buggy when I gave it to him, so I may see it again, in which case I'll try the software out. In the meantime, I've put up the DestiVu software for all of you. According to Rox, the DestiVu 2.1 software does not work with the Voodoo cards. I had reason to believe that the Voodoo2 cards would work with the 2.1 software because the 3.2 system cd contains the Voodoo2 drivers. I might put up the drivers from these cds because that could be the issue in some cases. Update 11/3/2004: I've provided the VideoRage II+ (2 Plus) video driver that was originally for Windows 95. I have tested this to be perfectly working with Windows 98SE including the video capture devices for the video card. I believe you will need the DestiVu software to actually watch TV with the card. On another note, to provide better download speeds as well as more bandwidth to my other websites, I'd like to ask if anyone with more bandwidth available than my lousy cable connection to possibly provide a mirror for some or all of these files. To give you an example of the overwhelming interest in these files, There has been 127 downloads between the first of November and today amounting to 3 GB of downloads in 3 days. 2 gb of which were on the 1st. This is getting close to that of last month's totals of 182 downloads amounting to 5.5 GB. Please contact me if you'd like to help mirror these files. Thanks! Update 8/11/2005: A friend has offered some space on their server to host a mirror of some of these files. It still would be of use to have a couple more mirrors, this server averages around 3 gb per month now, down from 8 gb in the last several months. We're calling for driver/software requests from you all. I'm not about to put the whole system cd out here because that would more than double our bandwidth usage from before our mirror. I would consider putting up more drivers for those who need drivers. I've put the VideoLogic Apocalypse 3Dx graphics accelerator card drivers up for anyone who needs them. If you have a Destination System and need drivers that aren't listed here, let me know. My e-mail is listed above. You can also use the contact page on nanovox.com. Also, to sum things up as far as bandwidth goes, we've had almost 50gb of downloads (over 2000 downloads) to date, and peaked at 9gb back in April. I never would have thought that so many people would be hunting down this software. Apparently even Gateway has been refering people to our website. |
Back to the Dead-Zone Downloads To facilitate more downloads in the future, we've created a download area where you can find all the downloads. Visit the Download Area.
